Important Things You Should Know

  1. This is a prepaid SIM and you must add enough credit to cover the cost of your plan before calls can be made.
  2. AT&T PAYG SIMs will only work in the USA, Canada, Mexico and some Caribbean countries.
  3. In the USA you pay to both make and receive calls. If you are on the $0.10/min plan and do not have any credit you will be unable to receive calls.
  4. Tethering and portable hotspot features are only supported on the $60 plan.
  5. Do not to enroll in auto-top-up as it will continue to bill your credit card after you return from holiday.
  6. You cannot access the AT&T online portal (to view your account and top-up) before you get to the USA.
  7. We recommend topping up through ezetop.com (aka ding.com) as AT&T expects you to have a USA credit card (it is possible to top-up using an Australian credit card by talking to a customer service rep, but not through the automated service.

Not happy.... January 31, 2017
Reviewer: Ajay from NSW Australia
Keep throwing money at it before it can be used. $20 AU for SIM, $45 or $60 USD for phone plan that gives only local US calls, add $15 USD for phone plan to get good AU rates to land lines and mobiles, then add credit so you can use the plan. AT&T had problems with AU credit cards, and USD travel cards. DING had problems crediting AT&T. Phone calls to AU were poor quality. Text to AU only worked 10% of the time. Sounded good at first, but there are easier options that cost the same.

A bit on the fiddly side January 23, 2017
Reviewer: Anonymous Person from Victoria Australia
I found that ordering and receiving the sim was the easy part. Loading the SIM and knowing it worked was so fiddly. I was only allowed to load in $30 lots and only one lot in a 48 hr period which was not obvious from the outset. So I had tried doing multiple amounts of $30 and then tried doing one and waiting (but apparently not the required time). This meant that I was only just loaded before boarding the plane which had me a little nervous. Then when at my destination, I couldn't make a call before further calling mobi sim first. Once it was all going there were no issues with it working. The coverage was fine and it worked without any trouble.

Mobi made it too easy December 22, 2016
Reviewer: Michael B from Queensland, Australia
I used this service 3 years ago, prior to the 'Ding App'.  This time I decided to purchase one sim card for myself with the plan of purchasing additional cards for the family once we arrived in Hawaii.

Following the set up steps on the website the sim was activated without a problem.  Using 'Ding' was also easy to add credit - I used paypal.

So easy that while taxiing to the terminal the private shuttle driver was already ringing me!   It was lucky we had this card as it was hard to locate phone businesses in and around Waikiki on our arrival.

As a family we ended up using public wifi or hot spotting to my phone for the 2 weeks.

The only additional cost with this system is the $20 for the sim card.   Other than that the plans are the same once you land in the US.

To be able to provide family, friends, and the bank with contact details BEFORE your leave is comforting and all too easy with Mobi.  Next time I'll make life easier and just buy 4 sims cards via Mobi.
